Rossett Food Cupboard is a community-led initiative based in Rossett, Wrexham, with a simple aim: to make sure good food doesn’t go to waste and that nobody in our local community has to go without.
What started as a small local project has grown into an important source of support for hundreds of people in Rossett and the surrounding area. We rescue perfectly good food that might otherwise end up in landfill and make it available to anyone who needs it.
There’s no complicated referral system and no judgement. If you need something, you are welcome to come along and take what you need.
Rossett Food Cupboard is slightly different from a traditional food bank.
Our work is centred around food rescue. We collect surplus food from supermarkets and other sources and make sure as much of it as possible is put to good use.
That means families and individuals can access free food while, at the same time, perfectly good food is prevented from becoming waste.
We believe those two things go hand in hand.
There is no reason for good food to be thrown away when people in our community can use it.
Life can be difficult, and circumstances can change very quickly.
Whether someone is struggling financially, facing an unexpected expense, experiencing a difficult period or simply needs a little extra help, we want Rossett Food Cupboard to be somewhere they can come without feeling embarrassed or judged.
We also work alongside local organisations and authorities to provide emergency food support for people who are particularly vulnerable.
Everyone deserves access to food, dignity and a little kindness.
Our community is at the heart of everything we do.
Over the years, Rossett Food Cupboard has supported local groups including Cubs, Scouts, Guides and Brownies, provided cakes for the Rossett Pensioners Club, helped with local events and supplied emergency food parcels through organisations including Wrexham County Borough Council, Citizens Advice and North Wales Police.
We also love being part of the fun side of community life.
From our huge Easter egg hunt to Santa’s Christmas float, providing refreshments for children during local events and supporting community activities, we believe that being a community organisation means being there for the good times as well as the difficult ones.
Rossett Food Cupboard could not do what it does without the incredible support of local people and businesses.
Food donations, financial donations, collections, fundraising and volunteering all help us keep going.
We also collect surplus food from supermarkets and work hard to ensure that the food we receive is put to the best possible use.
Our aim is simple: waste as little as possible and help as many people as possible.
Anything that cannot be distributed to people is redirected wherever possible, including to local farmers, so that it doesn’t simply end up in landfill.
Since Rossett Food Cupboard began, the need for our service has continued to grow.
What started with just a few cars and a small 2m x 2m shed has developed into a much larger operation, with vehicles and a dedicated site at the garages off Waverley Crescent in Rossett.
That growth is testament to both the need within our community and the generosity of the people who support us.
But our work can only continue with that support.
There is no shame in needing a helping hand.
Whether you are visiting us because you need food, donating food, making a financial contribution, volunteering your time or simply telling someone else about what we do, you are helping to make Rossett a stronger and more caring community.
